With this spring under our belt, we gained much more interest in regards to the genetic short freesias. Our customers have told us that it is important to keep freesias compact in order to prevent them from blowing over outside in fields and also to fit them inside a box. Another big plus of these varieties is that the crop time is between 3 to 5 weeks faster than a regular freesia. With space being tight in springtime this is a big help.
While visiting Van den Bos last week we also saw the first blue and red varieties. It is still early, and supply is very limited, but we can proudly say that we currently have a white, yellow, and pink variety and that red and blue will be coming soon. In the coming year we will introduce this further into the North American market. Since these corms are specifically grown for bulb production in separate greenhouses, they will not multiply as fast as a regular freesia variety. This means that availability will stay somewhat limited over the years. For any information please give us a call at 1 (760) 734 1033
